The Flying Island - The Flying Island (1975 Jazz Rock Fusion)

Resonably good violin-fronted fusion band. Obviously Mahavishnu Orchestra and Return to Forever (Joe Farrell even turns in a guest appearance here) are big influences, to say nothing of Frank Zappa’s fusion period. No real highlights, but it’s all enjoyable, and maintains interest from beginning to end. Worth exploring for the fusion fan.

Lodestine - Time Flies (1971 Prog Rock Deutsch)

German band which was formed by ex-please and ex-the flies members and played something as psych prog with very nice keyboards and hammond. O very like the songs and the music too sometimes it sounds to me symphonic and sometimes it reminds me music as Still Life or Quatermass or the British Bodkin. From the cover it looking to be Space Rock but its too too far far away from Space rock thats truly psychhardprog album its a must hear for all psychprog lovers, Thats why i love that style. Their name is really good for the music they play because when i listeng it to it its so fastly end then i can see How fast the time flies :)

Reinhold Weber - Elektronische Musik (Deutsch Kratrock)

Review by Lev Gankine:
Sparse droney electronics with spooky spoken word interludes. Based on this description, I should probably like this album more than I actually do, but what really prevents me from sinking deep into Reinhold Weber's music is its obvious academic nature. I mean, this reminds me more of a sonic research LP than any kind of krautrock, and as such it comes off a little bit soulless for me. Closer to Stockhausen than Can if you get my drift. Come to think of it, he probably didn't even do drugs!

High Tide - High Tide (1970 Hard Rock Bonused)

Review from RYM
I have to say I like their second release a bit more than their highly acclaimed (well I guess by Metal- and not by Prog fans) debut.
The opener is starting quite fine in fact and of course the electric violin is great. Neverthess the song doesn't offer too much variation later on for its length and starts becoming a bit boring, but still a fairly good hardrock song. Second track "The
Joke" is done very much better starting with a bit odd classical intro and offering much more variation with some more heavy sections and as well some more in a folk-ish vein with very nice violin. Highlight of the very short album is of course the over 14 minutes long "Saneonimous". It starts with great guitar lines, violin playing a second different voice and very good rhythm section. Then there is a second part starting acoustically with guitar and some piano until violin and vocals are entering. Really excellent! Then a short guitar solo and things are becoming more heavy again for quite a while with fantastic guitar riffing and violin playing. Finally there is again a more quiet part similar to the middle one. This album is unfortunately a bit too short with just a bit more than half an hour and only 2 tracks of the 3 are really excellent. But combined together with Sea Shanties one gets an album which is worth 4 1/2 stars.

Barde "Barde" 1977

Barde "Images" 1978

DL

This sextet from Montreal was formed in 1973 and found their brand of Acadian & Celtic reels and jigs popular around the Maritimes, Quebec and overseas in Europe. The group was known for its utilization of a twin Celtic fiddle sound courtesy of Crilly and Selick.

They signed to Polygram then to Direction Records, then to Flying Fish, and finally to Porte Parole. Their eponymous debut, Barde, was released in 1977. By their the second album, Images, in 1978 Chris Crilly had introduced keyboards in the form of synths and pianos. By 1983's Voyage Selick had also left and the remaining members changed musical direction by incorporating keyboards bass and violin courtesy of studio musicians Jacques Joubert, Richard Paquette, and Jocelyn Therrien.

Pierre Guerin led a revamped Barde at the 10th Annual Winnipeg Folk Festival. The band finally disbanded for good shortly thereafter with Guerin marrying and settling in the St. Boniface region of Winnipeg. He became a disc jockey before becoming Artistic Director of The Winnipeg Folk Festival.

with notes from Pierre Guerin, Chris MacRaghallaigh and Richard Chapman.

Richard Chapman (vocals, mandolin, banjo, dulcimer, guitar)
Toby Cinnsealac (aka Kinsella) (tin flute, tin whistle, recorders, clarinet, tambourine)
Pierre Guerin (vocals, acoustic guitar, accordion, concertina, flute, recorder)
Chris (aka Crilly) MacRaghallaigh (vocals, violin, keyboards, bodhran, tambourine)

No strings, but a lacklustre horn section added to the loss of Phil Harris on lead guitar and some of Paul Carrack's lesser songs make this a disappointing follow up to the excellent Time for Another.

Eternité - Les Chants de l'Eternite (1977 Quebec folkrock)

Poet / author Claude Péloquin returned to the Québec music scene in 1977, four years after his last appearance on vinyl when he delivered "Pélo Krispé" in collaboration with the band Kinchimali, and five years after his first recorded collaboration as part of the duo Péloquin Sauvageau with Jean Sauvageau. This time around, his proposed concept, "Les Chants de l'Éternité", sees collaboration with Michel LeFrançois, guitarist/keyboardist and one-time member of L'Infonie. With what can be taken as a self-reference in the title, the duo is thereby known as Éternité.
The concept refers to the future from a spiritual perspective (with many references to celestial beings). The accompanying music is of a heavy rock nature, at times approaching fusion, and bordering on electro-symphonic music. Amongst others, the album sees appearances by Gilles Schetagne of Maneige and Richard Perotte of Contraction, as well as backing vocals from June Wallack and Estelle Ste-Croix (Ville Emard Blues Band).
Péloquin would continue pursuing religious themes, returning in 1979 with his solo album "L'Ouverture du paradis". Following the album's release, LeFrançois would in turn collaborate with Claude Léveillée for the latter's 1978 album "Black Sun". LeFrançois then returned to the themes espoused by "Les Chants de l'Éternité" for his solo album, "Sur la Terre comme au ciel", also in 1979. He would then join the group Maneige for their last album before disbanding.
