Les Dudek - Freestyle

Les Dudek grew up in Florida. At the age of 19 he was called upon by the Allman Brothers Band to perform on the "Brothers and Sisters" album, on which he played lead guitar on" Ramblin Man" and acoustic guitar on "Jessica."
For the next three years Les was the guitar strength in Boz Scaggs band. most notably playing slide guitar on "Jump Street" from the "Silk Degrees" album.
In 1974, Boz and Les special guested the Joker Tour with The Steve Miller Band. At the end of this tour, Miller invited Les up to Seattle to record some tunes that turned into classic hits on Fly Like An Eagle and Book Of Dreams (Capital Records), from which Les co-wrote *Sacrifice*. On Living In The 20th Century (Capital Records), Les appears on the record and the movie. Les also co-wrote *Blue Eyes*on the Wide River Album (Polygram). Another memorable show Les did with Miller was the second Knebworth Park Concert outside of London featuring Pink Floyd, Captain Beefheart and members of Monty Python's Flying Circus.
Les was then approached to record a demo for Columbia Records. and at the same time, Herbie Herbert asked Les to come to a rehearsal hall in San Francisco to hear this new band he was nurturing. He wanted *the two guitar heroes* of the Bay area to be in the same band, **.and we*re going to call it "Journey". The same day Les was invited to the first Journey rehearsal, he was offered a solo recording deal from Columbia records. Les decided to go with being a solo artist for Columbia Records.
During the next six years Les released four critically acclaimed solo albums, (Les Dudek debut, Say No More, Ghost Town Parade and Gypsy Ride) scoring two FM radio hits * *City Magic* and *Old Judge Jones*. He then collaborated with two other Columbia artists, Mike Finnigan, who played with Jimi Hendrix and CSN&Y and Jim Krueger, who wrote *We Just Disagree* for Dave Mason. DFK (Dudek, Finnegan, and Krueger) released one album on Columbia Records and toured most of 1978 with Kansas.
After a hiatus from DFK, CHER asked Dudek to participate on a recording project, which became the Black Rose album (Casablanca Records). After a few appearances, such as a concert with Hall & Oates in New York*s Central Park, *The Merv Griffin Show* and Wolfman Jack's * Midnight Special*, the Band broke up.
In 1984, Dudek made his acting debut as "Bone" in Peter Bogdanovich*s Universal feature film "Mask" which starred Cher, Sam Elliott, Eric Stoltz and Laura Dern. He also penned a few songs for the soundtrack.
Dudek teamed up with Stevie Nicks and co-wrote two songs; *Sister Honey*, a collaboration which appears on her "Rock A Little" album (Modern/Atlantic Records) and *Freestyle*, the title track to Les* new CD . Les also toured with Stevie on her 1991 Whole Lotta Trouble tour.
Throughout the *90*s Dudek toured the U.S. and Europe. Les also released a rock 'n blues album titled Deeper Shades Of Blues and Freestyle (E Flat Productions). Additionally, Les wrote and performed instrumental library music for television. This music can be heard on NBC, ABC, ESPN, FOX SPORTS and the E channel. These instrumentals are featured on such programs as *Friends*, *Extra*, *Wild On*, *Search Party*, and *Access Hollywood*.

Michael Hill's Blues Mob - Have Mercy!

Michael Hill, from the Bronx, is an outstanding guitarist with a social worker's acute awareness of life around him--a pair of attributes that meld together effectively for the modern blues of his second album. His able singing of lyrics--on bigotry, homelessness, street violence, Mother Africa, gender equality, and other topics--is integrated with his Blues Mob's alluring blend of electric blues, high- decibel rock, funk, and reggae. Hill's frequent solos are real head- turners, telling exclamatory stories that emphasize the message in the words of his original songs. He also transforms the age-old, tough-guy tale "Staggerlee" into a modern parable and takes his band way, way deep into Chicago blues for as rousing a treatment of boogie man Hound Dog Taylor's "She's Gone" as you'll hear anywhere. --Frank-John Hadley

Doug MacLeod has been a widely acknowledged electric blues guitarist for many years putting in solid road time with the likes of Big Joe Turner and Pee Wee Crayton. As leader of the Doug MacLeod Band, he has a number of U.S. and European tours and several albums to his credit. Doug disbanded the group to focus all his energies on his first love, acoustic blues. Come to Find is the remarkable fruit of that effort. It is the sound of a consummate bluesman touching the core of his art in a program featuring ten originals by Doug. He is beautifully supported in this intimate setting by harmonica ace Charlie Musslewhite and The Mighty Flyers' rhythm section, Jimi Bott and Bill Stuve.

Doug MacLeod - Unmarked Road (1997) @320 EAC/APE LOSSLESS

"Doug MacLeod's dark singing and sparse guitar playing are a throwback to the country-blues artists of the 1930s, although his lyrics have more modern sensibilities. Much of this superior CD is haunting and mildly disturbing, giving one the feeling that there is a great deal beneath the surface. It is the type of blues/folk recording worth experiencing several times, in contrast to those of recent times that express more obvious sentiments. Bassist Jeff Turmes is on just seven of the dozen songs (five of which also include drummer Stefev Mugalian); three of the remaining tunes are duets by MacLeod with percussionist Oliver Brown, and the two others are unaccompanied solo performances. Although the leader's guitar playing is impressive, it is his distinctive and very sincere voice on his dozen originals that sticks in one's mind."

"Unmarked Road" was named one of the Top Ten Blues Albums of the century. - Blues Revue

Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials - ...What You See Is What You Get

The Blues Imperials' latest album marks a new level of strident indecency in their slash-and-burn approach to performing. The group, expanded two years back by the addition of a crowd-pleasing tenor saxophonist, now takes periodic breaks from the clamor with affective slow blues that steam for Lil' Ed's desperate, measured singing and guitar wringing. There are fourteen enjoyable songs, all from the pen of the head Imperial except J. B. Hutto's "Please Help" and group bassist Pookie Young's "Upset Man." -- © Frank John Hadley 1993

Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials - Heads Up!

When it comes time to rock the house with uninhibited blues power, Chicago slide guitar sensation Lil' Ed Williams and his boisterous band, the Blues Imperials, have few equals. Lil' Ed's unrelentingly energetic approach, modeled in great part on that of his uncle, the late J.B. Hutto, makes the songs secondary to the insistent rhythm and propulsive power of the music. And the power, fueled by Lil' Ed's slashing slide guitar, is considerable as the band races through a solid set of extroverted blues party music in the style of another great houserocker, Hound Dog Taylor. A trio of tracks, including the fast-paced "My Mind Is Gone," feature the group's three-guitar touring lineup, but Lil' Ed, ably assisted by longtime fretmate Mike Garrett, showers more than enough guitar sparks elsewhere to keep the music burning brightly. Lil' Ed's sizzling slide work remains the group's calling card, but it is the complex interplay of the tightly knit band, anchored by Williams's bassist brother James "Pookie" Young, underneath his solos that makes it all work. Together, they fashion a raw and focused electrifying sound that has attracted legions of fans to their live shows, a fact musically acknowledged via the brief but celebratory "Ed Heads' Boogie" tribute. --Michael Point

There's something incredibly cool about slide guitar, and Ed Williams (the Li'l Ed of Li'l Ed & the Blues Imperials) knows what it is. Get Wild!, the group's fourth album for Alligator Records, is the perfect party spin--even when Li'l Ed and company slow down (as they do for the I've-done-wrong-in-my-life, gospel-inflected "Change My Way of Living"), it's still high-octane. James "Pookie" Young has some of the fattest bass on CD, and his lines support uptempo, high-energy songs like "Singing Slide," "You Got to Stop," "Independent Superwoman," and "Nothing I Wouldn't Do." If Williams (who learned his technique from uncle and slide guitar legend J.B. Hutto) isn't the most technically accomplished guitar-slinger on the planet, he makes up for that in sheer infectious enthusiasm. Get Wild! is fun all the way through. --Genevieve Williams

The Hellhounds- Between Somewhere and Nowhere

Fasten your seatbelts... The Hellhounds will take you for a lightnin' fast ride to where the 90 proof deltabilly blues lasts all night long, produced by Jeff Dunn and Donald "Duck" Dunn in Memphis, it is the genuine article.

The Hellhounds are Vince Flora on Lead Vocals, Harp and Guitar, Johnny Beemiller on Guitar / Vocals, Ron Rummage on Bass / Vocals and Bill Meredith on Drums. They possess a certain sound and ability as a band with individual musicianship unparalleled by many.
The Hellhounds would like to invite you to taste some Memphis barbeque for your ears by listening to some clips from Halfway Between Somewhere And Nowhere. The CD was recorded September 2005 at Leeway Music Studios in Memphis with producer Jeff Dunn and engineer Kevin Houston. Mastering was done by Larry and Kevin Nix at Ardent Studios also in Memphis.
Donald "Duck" Dunn ( Booker T. & the M.G.'s, Blues Brothers and Neil Young) served as executive producer on the project as well. The band had Duck come in towards the end of pre-production to see if the songs and arrangements could pass the acid test. Soon thereafter at a show in early August Duck told the band it was time to hightail it to memphis, get down to business and record the CD.
In keeping with the flow of their intense and spontaneous
energy, the Hellhounds finished the CD which showcases the band's powerful live sound in only eight days, topping off
the hard work in the studio with a smokin' show at Blues City on Beale Street.
The Hellhounds are now being played on XM radio Bluesville Ch.74 and have also been featured on the Radar Report
on XMU ch.43 which is the cutting edge new release show
on XM.
The Hellhounds are going to be featured with interviews
on the House Of Blues Radio Hour August 19th & 20th,
check your local HOB station for exact times!
After four years of performing live the hellhounds have captured their high energy Deltabilly Blues on a CD for you to fire up whenever you like. It's time to "get bit" by the Hellhounds!

Wes Jeans - Forest Of The Pine

Mega-awesome second studio disc by this bad-ass, killer blues/rock axeslinger from Texas featuring special guest axerippers ERIC GALES & LANCE LOPEZ. Big Walter "Shakey" Horton - Fine Cuts

Walter Horton was, quite simply, one of the most exciting, influential, tasteful, powerful and imaginative harmonica players of all time. He created a unique, fluid style that combined keen precision with a genius for tone, at the same time blending a sure mastery of his instrument with a rare emotional intensity. This quiet, shy man left his mark on dozens of classic Chess recordings that defined the Windy City blues style.

Good Rockin' Charles - Good Rockin' Charles

CD REWIEW
The elusive Chicago harpist's one and only full-length album, originally issued on Steve Wisner's short-lived Mr. Blues logo and later picked up by Rooster Blues (but not available on CD as yet). Cut in 1975, this set shows that Charles never left the 1950s stylistically -- backed by a nails-tough combo, he pays tribute to both Sonny Boys and his ex-boss Jimmy Rogers while betraying more than a hint of Little Walter influence.

BIO
Harpist Good Rockin' Charles is best-known for a solo he didn't play. Suffering from a bad case of studio fright, Charles chickened out of playing on guitarist Jimmy Rogers' 1956 Chess waxing of "Walking by Myself" -- leaving the door wide-open for Big Walter Horton to blow a galvanic solo that rates among his very best. Charles' domestic solo discography consists of one nice album for Steve Wisner's short-lived Mr. Blues logo in 1975.

Inspired by both Sonny Boys and Little Walter, Charles Edwards began playing harp shortly after hitting Chicago in 1949. He played with a plethora of local luminaries -- Johnny Young, Lee Jackson, Arthur Spires, Smokey Smothers -- before joining Rogers's combo in 1955. Cobra Records also tried and failed to corral him for a session in 1957.

Bassist Hayes Ware was instrumental in finally convincing the elusive Good Rockin' into a studio for Mr. Blues, where he shook the walls with revivals of classics by both Sonny Boys, Rogers, and Jay McShann. Unfortunately, it would prove the extent of the mysterious harpist's recorded legacy.
